Some words...

This event is to honor the 65th birthday of Prof. Marco Antônio Chaer Nascimento. Prof. Chaer, as his students call him, has been a reference in the theoretical and physical chemistry for the brazilian scientific community for more than 30 years. His lasting influence is perceived at all levels of academic research activity. From basic undergraduate courses in physical chemistry to advanced graduate lectures in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ). From local courses and schools to the creation and organization of large international meetings in the area, namely, the Brazilian Symposium of Theoretical Chemistry (Simpósio Brasileiro de Química Teórica - SBQT) and two Molecular Modelling conferences. From the conception of one of the first Brazilian graduate research programs in physical chemistry, to the lead position on the advisory board of the Brazilian National Research agency (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq). Finally, from his undergraduate and graduate students to many other researchers that had the opportunity to work close to him. If only for these facts, his 65th birthday would be worth noticing. However, there is much more beyond the sheer listing of curriculum features. Besides his extensive knowledge of physical chemistry, he has always been deeply concerned about the quality and integrity of his students and of the research performed under his supervision. He has captivated generations of students and researchers. This event is at the same time, an acknowledgement of his achievements and a manifestation of respect and affection of his students and collaborators.
